New Horizons

Seven months since the home page photo of the grandchildren was taken on Ellen's 7th birthday I now have a replacement which shows us all a little bit older and definitely a little bit wiser when it comes to dealing with granddad's illness.

The most significant news to date relating to future objectives along this journey is that within a fortnight it is anticipated that I will be back in my own home. Somewhat incredulous that all this is feasible in such a short space of time I am at the same time excited by the prospect and determined to do everything in my power to ensure all goes as smoothly as possible.

In celebration a bottle or two of Batemans was cracked open to accompany my lunch and the answer to any doubters about the question on the label is a resounding "Yes I have!"

That's brilliant news, really good to see that, so I wish you all you need to make that happen. Never doubted the answer to that question...

  3. Good morning David
This is such good news that you’re going home in a couple of weeks, a goal which I’ve no doubt you will achieve.
Nobody would ever guess about your illness looking at this photo, as you look positively perky, and your grandchildren are lovely and have such a resemblance to you.
No one would doubt the answer to the question and I would also add that you’ve got bottle as well!
On this high note, I wish for you and your family a very happy weekend.
    Love and Hugs

  7. In comparing the two photos one would never guess what you'd been through over the last seven months! You must be very proud of those grandchildren and your lovely daughter. I hope these next two weeks go well and you get to enjoy some home comforts again soon.

  8. Hi David
Hoping all is well today and that you manage to get outside to enjoy the spring air.
I came across this 360 degree photography the other day and thought you’d enjoy this. Take a look inside the Vulcan bomber cockpit and rotate around it, it’s brilliant.

  12. Hi David & Geraldine,

Hoping things are moving along nicely for you to be back at home asap?

PS. Apart from trendy short hair the picture doesn't show what you've been through in the past 6+ months - you're still lovely :-)

Love the photo with the grandkids!
Ellen looks very mature for her age and they are both so handsome... no wonder, looking at their granddad ;)

  16. Geraldine sent me a text this morning, to say that David was still in the hospice and very ill.

Sorry if this news comes as a shock, but she said it was just a matter of hours and that we [I] should remember him the way he was.

    Bless him.

  22. We give them back to Thee, dear Lord, who gavest them to us; yet as Thou dost not lose them in giving, so we have not lost them by their return. Not as the world giveth, givest Thou, O Lover of Souls. What Thou gavest, Thou takest not away, for what is Thine is ours always if we are Thine. And Life is eternal and Love is immortal, and death is only an horizon, and an horizon is nothing save the limit of our sight.

David may your passing be peaceful and painfree and Geraldine and your family find strenght from the happy times you have had together.

Thank you for your unique brand of wit and wisdom, your positive attitude and sunny outlook. You showed such courage and strength whilst still considering others who were helped by your kind and sympathetic words. You will be greatly missed on the Mac forum. 30. Dear David
You inspired me with your wise words, your warm welcome, and your amazing spirit full of so much joy, humour, strength and courage. We never met in person yet you embraced me and many others as a friend which I will never forget - thank you from the bottom of my heart. The only consolation is that you are in peace and without pain. You will be missed by so many but I hope that the happiness you shared with your family and friends will give them strength at this difficult time.
    Rest in peace my friend.

  33. We shall miss you greatly, as a member of the Association, as a fellow mushroom nut-case, and as a pal. I know that even a month ago, you were hoping to come to the AGM, which epitomises your great courage. The mycological world will be a poorer place without you. We are thinking of Geraldine and the family.

  36. Dear Geraldine, I can't tell you how saddened I am by David's death. He was an inspiration to me and Ed while we fought the same cancer at the same time. I will miss him so much. Goliath is so cruel. Please know that our thoughts and best wishes are coming your way now and in the future.
